Case Study:

Josh Monen Grows His Monthly Freelance Income by More Than 40% While Enjoying Less Stress and Greater Confidence

As his family’s sole breadwinner, Josh Monen felt pressure to build a successful freelance writing business.

He’d already done well with his business and was pulling in around $6,000 per month. This was enough to pay most of the bills.

But he continued to struggle with cash flow. A good month would be followed by a bad month, making his income unpredictable.

Having lived with this situation for over five years, the pressure was taking a toll.

Day after day, month after month, he worried whether he could make his business sustainable for the long term. “I would question myself constantly,” he says. “I would ask, “Is this going to work? Will I have to quit my business and get a regular job?” The doubts were constant.”

“I Needed a Mentor

No matter what he did, Josh couldn’t seem to break through the invisible barrier that stopped him from taking his business to the next level. “I kept running into a wall,” he explains. “I’d been at it for awhile, and I wanted keep moving forward. But I just couldn’t seem to get there.”

It wasn’t for lack of trying. Josh did everything he could think of to grow his business on his own. “I’m an avid reader,” he says, “I’m always listening to podcasts. I’m constantly learning about how you’re supposed to grow your business.” But nothing was working.

Eventually, Josh concluded that he needed more tailored support. “I felt like I needed a mentor,” he says. “What was missing was some type of coaching guidance.”

Making the Decision With the Support of His Partner

Josh had already reached this conclusion when he received an “out-of-the-blue” email from Ed Gandia.

In the email, Ed announced that he would soon be opening enrollment for The 2X Project (since rebranded the Elevate program). At the time, Josh was on a road trip with his family.

At first, the price of the program seemed out of reach. “I thought that the program would be a stretch financially. So I decided to not even bring it up with my wife,” he says.

But as the road trip continued, the topic of conversation in the car swung around to his business. “We started talking about coaching,” he says. “I mentioned to my wife that this program had opened up. She immediately expressed her support and encouraged me to enroll. So I pulled out my phone and registered on the spot!”

More Income, Less Fear

It was a decision that Josh hasn’t regretted. Today, he’s busier than ever, and his income has also grown.

Bringing in $10,000 a month has become a new normal. “Before completing The 2X Project program, that level of income for me would have been unheard of,” he says. “Previously, I was doing closer to $6,000 or maybe $7,000.”

This jump in income has been accompanied by less stress, not more. “Not only have I grown my business,” he says, “but I also have the tools I need to manage that growth.”

As a result, Josh is no longer living in a constant state of fear. “I don’t have the same worries,” he says. “Even though there’s a lot happening in my business, I’m not going crazy like I was before.”

The Confidence to Talk About Money

Just as importantly, the way Josh feels when running his business has also changed. He feels more confident in what he’s doing — especially when it comes to talking to prospects.

In particular, he no longer feels uncomfortable when talking about his fees. “I used to put off talking about money with prospects,” he says. “So I’d end up wasting a lot of time on people who weren’t a good fit.”

With Ed’s support, Josh now brings up the topic of money early in negotiations. “Today, I talk money early in the conversation, without making a big deal of it,” he says. “As a result, I spend a lot less time on unqualified prospects, and my sales process is much more efficient.”

No Pressure Prospect Calls

Josh’s mindset has also changed. He no longer feels pressured to land every opportunity that comes to him. “Before, if someone wanted to book an appointment with me, I’d get all excited,” he says. “I used to think, I’ve GOT to sell this person. And often, I’d end up lowering my price to make it happen.”

Now, Josh looks at these initial conversations differently. “I learned that the point of that first phone call isn’t to sell,” he says. “It’s really just a discovery call to see if we’re a good fit. And that takes the pressure off.”

As a result, these conversations feel much more natural. “Without the pressure, I’m able to connect better with prospects,” he says. “We’ll often end up laughing together! The whole dynamic is different.”

Resolution of Long-Standing Challenges

Many of the challenges that drove Josh to enroll in The 2X Project have also been resolved.

With the growth in his income, Josh no longer struggles with cash flow like he used to. He’s learned how to keep prospecting and nurturing — even when he’s busy. “Before taking The 2X Project program, I was constantly caught in a feast or famine cycle,” he says. “But I’m not any longer.”

The program also helped Josh get clarity on how to position himself and his business. “I now realize that my lack of focus was holding me back,” he says. “I would constantly change my mind on what markets to target. I would commit to a certain niche, and then change it a few weeks later.”

Thanks to The 2X Project, Josh now feels much more confident about what he has to offer. “It helped me figure out what makes me different from the hundreds of other copywriters out there,” he explains.

“I Got My Money’s Worth”

Josh recognizes that the cost of The 2X Project might cause some prospective students to hesitate. But he knows he got his money’s worth. “The program is worth it,” he says. “I got more out of it that I thought I would. I can’t argue with the ROI.”

When asked what advice he’d give to prospective students, Josh doesn’t hesitate: “Do you want to grow your business? Are you willing to think differently than you have before? If so, then this program is a great fit.”

He continues: “The support and advice you get from Ed and the other students in the program is priceless. You can’t get this stuff from books, podcasts or anything else.”

“If you’re on the fence, I hope this tips you over. I’m a big believer in this program.”
